The Phantoms of Lovanium – remembering a student revolt in Congo

In the shade of trees, a popular Congolese painter hangs his canvas on the campus of the University of Kinshasa -UniKin formerly Lovanium- Democratic Republic of Congo.

From photographs retrieved from former leaders, the painter tells the story of a student revolt violently repressed and forgotten in the late 60s under Mobutu.

This device causes a public and collective remembrance with current students and raises the question of an unfinished mourning.
